Prerequisites (3 courses)
Cog Sci c1/Educ c1 Introduction to Cognitive Science (4)
Math 1A Calculus (4)
OR
Math 16A
Analytical Geometry and Calculus (3)
CS 61A Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs (4)
Note:  An average GPA of 2.0 or higher in these prerequisites is required for admission to the major.   
Note: Some upper division courses have additional prerequisites that prospective majors need to consider seriously.
Lower Division Requirements (2 courses)
MCB 61 Brain, Mind, and Behavior (3)
OR
MCB 64
Exploring the Brain: Introduction to Neuroscience (3)
Math 55 or CS 70 Discrete Mathematics (4)
Note: Lower-division requirements are not prerequisites for admission to the major, but should be completed as early as possible, as they provide the foundations for other required courses.  
Upper Division Requirements (at least 30 units)
Note:  Directed Group Study (198), Supervised Independent Study (199), or Honors (H195A-H195B) courses may not be used to fulfill the upper-division  requirement.

Cog Sci c101/Ling c105 The Mind and Language (4)
Distribution Requirement (6 courses)
One course in each of the six areas of concentration, selected from the courses listed for "Non-concentrators".

Philosophy
Neuroscience
Society, Culture, and Cognition
Note: Courses that are listed within more than one area of concentration can be counted for only one requirement, although the student is free to choose which one.
Concentration (Optional -- at least 3 courses)
Students are not required to concentrate their studies in any particular area.  Those who elect to do so must compete at least three courses in the chosen area, following the guidelines for "Concentrators".  
Note:  Students who elect to concentrate in one of the six areas may fulfill their distribution requirement in that area with a course listed for "Concentrators".
